Foam Shortages 2022 - TDI Chemical Supply Issues - UK

You may be aware that back in 2020, there was a shortage of TDI which caused a surge in polyurethane block prices. Fast forward to 2021 and there was a new shortage of a different chemical - Propylene Oxide again leading to price increases on foam blocks.

We have now just heard from one of the major foam manufacturers that there will be foam shortages due to raw material cost increases and TDI chemical shortages.

The TDI chemical shortages are due to a sudden and unforeseen chlorine leak at one of the producing factories causing the shutdown of TDI production. Full production is unlikely to resume until the end of November. Two other TDI chemical manufacturers have also reduced shipments pf TDI for various reasons.

Because of these shortages there will be supply issues of foam throughout the UK for an unknown period of time.
